DescriptionThis is the badge of the JS Hatsuyuki (DD 122), a Japanese ship which was commissioned in 1982. This vessel forms part of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force. This force visited Malta on 23 September 1991, as part of a training cruise which visited fourteen countries in total. The force was made up of JDS Katori and the destroyers JDS Hatsuyuki (DD122) and JDS Yamayuki (DD129). As indicated on the plaque, this was ‘presented by Commanding Officer DD 122 Hatsuyuki', in 1991 when it visited Malta. JS Hatysuyuki was scrapped in 2011.The metal badge depicts the head gear of a samurai warrior with arm plates. Above the helmet there is the symbol of the Japanese navy. The plaque is fixed beneath the metal badge as a commemorative piece. The inscription in gold is the name of the ship Hatsuyuki.
