DescriptionThe badge of a German training ship "GORCH FOCK". The Gorch Fock is a three-masted sailing ship used by the German navy for training cadets. The Gorch Fock, which entered service as a training ship in 1959, is named in honor of the German author Johann Kinau, who wrote under the nom de plume of "Gorch Fock." Kinau was killed in the World War I battle of Jutland/Skagerrak in 1916. The badge represents what appears to be three sails, probably representing the three masts of the ship and a representation of the ship's albatross figurehead, designed by a former World War II U-boat commander.InscriptionsOn recto "Zur Erinnerung an den Besuch in La Valetta Oktober 1995 Gorch Fock"; On verso "Thomas-Georg Hering Kapitan zur See SSS "Gorch Fock" Blucherbrucke 24105 Kiel Tel.
