The Regina Maris was built by J.R. Andersen in Denmark in 1908. It is a three masted barquentine which carries 34 sails with a total area of 7,000 square feet. She was built of oak and is 117 feet long. After being extensively damaged by fire in 1964, two Norwegians fully restored her to fulfill their ambition to sail her round the Horn. This she did in 1969 and represented Norway at the Bicentenary Celebrations in Sydney of Capt. Cook's first voyage to Australia. The Regina Maris was in Malta in April 1976 when this original water colour was painted.
