BiographyVittore Carpaccio, born in Venice, Italy, in the mid 15th century, is best known for his master storytelling and scenography in cycles commissioned by members of confraternities, or 'Scuole', as well as local churches. Additionally, he produced a number of altarpieces and devotional works. It is believed that he acquired his training at the workshop of Giovanni Bellini, mainly under the elder son Gentile, and was greatly influenced by Renaissance artist Antonello da Messina amongst others. Carpaccio is recognised for his minute architectural details and religious themes.
