4-pounder Cannonball
Classification(s)
Object TypeCannonball
Registration NumberMMM 005180
DescriptionA round cannonball of cast iron. Its dimension and weight roughly corresponds to that which would have been fired from a 4-pounder artillery piece. Such projectiles were often found aboard smaller merchant or corsairing ships and were meant to be used to cripple smaller craft. The relatively small size of the ball also made it more practical against personnel than heavier artillery pieces.Material
