DescriptionTowed to Malta in 2 sections; left Bombay on 20 March 1947 and arrived Malta 8 May 1947. Assembly at Malta completed in October 1947. Moored at Dockyard Creek (between St. Angelo and Senglea) on 2 August 1948 and made its first lift on 21 September 1948 ("HMS OCEAN"). Moved to Magazine Wharf on 24 October 1949, and made its first lift there on 30 November 1949 ("HMS GLORY") . Photo taken in November 1949 during diving trials to ensure that the AFD would not foul the seafloor when fully submerged. The AFD was leased to Bailey (Malta) Ltd on 30 March 1959. Towed away from Malta to Spezia in June 1965.Special Collection
