DescriptionOil on board painting by T.M.P Duggan of London . It is not signed or dated. The work depicts the tower clock of the Ex-Royal Naval Bakery (nowadays the Malta Maritime Museum) in Birgu. The Naval Bakery always had a monumental prescence in the context of the Birgu waterfront. Sir William Scamp’s (1801-1872) use of certain architectural features, such as the recurring balustrade and the clock bell tower, shows his knowledge of other waterfronts and naval architecture found globally. For example, the bell tower is very similar to the use of a pair of towers at the Naval Storehouse of HMD Bermuda, which were constructed after that found in Birgu.Dimensions71.7 x 48cmAlternate ID Numbers
