DescriptionA small shell or grenade provisioned with a hole for a fuse. Such an object, once lit, may have been thrown by hand or launched via hand mortar, grenade launcher or a swivel-mounted piece, to clear the deck of an enemy ship from combatants, either in a defensive or offensive scenario. It may indeed be rather heavy to be thrown by hand - hand grenades could often be made of lighter materials, such as ceramic or glass; or they could be made smaller.Material
