Valentin de BoulogneFrench, 1590 - 1632

Valentin de Boulogne (c.1590–1632), also known as Le Valentin, was a French painter associated with the tenebrist style. Born in Coulommiers, he was baptized there on 3 January 1591, suggesting his birth occurred the previous year. His family, whose name was variously spelled Boullogne or Boulongne, traced its origins to Boulogne-sur-Mer but had lived in Coulommiers since the late 15th century. Both his father, also named Valentin, and his uncle Jean were painters.
