Giovanni Francesco Camocio

Giovanni Francesco Camocio was a Venetian cartographer, map publisher, and printer, and one of the most productive members of the Lafreri school of Italian mapmakers in the latter half of the sixteenth century. Between 1556 and 1571, he issued twelve books and had established his own copper-plate printing workshop. His work included engravings based on drawings and paintings by Titian, as well as various religious subjects. From about 1560 to 1575, Camocio produced at least 36 large maps along with numerous smaller ones. His career came to an end during the plague that ravaged Venice from 1574 to 1577, and since no records mention him after 1575, he likely perished in the outbreak.
