Jean-Antoine ConstantinFrench, 1756 - 1844
Born in Marseille, France, in 1756, Jean-Antoine Constantin founded the Provençal school of landscape painting. He attempted to visit Rome to study but had to return due to his declining health. He was also the Director of the School of Drawing in Aix-en-Provence. Constantin was never accepted into the Paris Salon and ended up dying in poverty in 1844.
