Adrien ManglardFrench, 1695 - 1760
Adrien Manglard was a French painter, draughtsman, and engraver best known for his seascapes and landscape paintings. Born in Lyon, he trained under the Dutch-influenced landscapist Adriaen van der Cabel before moving to Rome in his youth, where he spent most of his career and achieved rapid success thanks to his strong compositional skills. In Rome he worked for prominent patrons and became a respected member of major art academies. Manglard also taught and influenced younger artists, notably Claude-Joseph Vernet. His works and decorative frescoes remain in collections and institutions across Europe.
