DescriptionH.M.S NORFOLK (F230) was a British Type 23 frigate, the sixth in the Royal Navy to use this name, laid down in 1985 by Yarrow Shipbuilders, and launched in July 1987 and named for the Dukedom of Norfolk.
The badge shows on a field red, an Argent feather topped with a Ducal crown. Badge is Official design, surrounded by a golden rope and topped with a Naval crown. The motto is 'Ich Dien' and it derives from German, meaning ‘I serve’; the motto of the Prince of Wales, adopted with the symbol of ostrich feathers after the battle of Crécy (1346), from John of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia, who was killed in the battle.
