DescriptionFragment of a pattern for a ship's badge: an originally diamond-shaped wooden badge. It depicted a hand in a gauntlet grasping a baton, emerging from carved waves. Only the waves are present as the hand and baton are missing. The border of the diamond is slightly elevated mimicking a stranded rope but its upper, horizontal part, which probably carried the vessel's name in a rectangular box, is missing.

H.M.S Ruler belonged to the Ruler-class aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy. It had been built in Seattle, originally as a mercantile vessel, and got requisitioned by the US Navy.
