Bartolomeo Passarotti

Italian, 1529 - 1592
BiographyBartolomeo Passarotti (or Passerotti), born in 1529 and died in 1592, was an Italian artist from Bologna who followed the conventions of Mannerism in his portraits of cardinals and popes he executed in Rome. Especially distinctive of the artist are later genre scene works which take place in a butcher shop, presenting a unique method of human caricature. His studies of human anatomy also provide a testament to his characteristic cross-hatching technique.
