Carlo Maratta

BiographyCarlo Maratta (1625–1713), also spelled Maratti, was a prominent Italian Baroque painter and draftsman, active mainly in Rome, where he dominated the artistic scene in the latter half of the 17th century. Skilled in both fresco and canvas, he produced works across genres ranging from history to portraiture. As the foremost exponent of the classicizing tendency within the Late Baroque, he attracted prestigious commissions, including from several popes.
