Laurent de la Hyre
French, 1606 - 1656
BiographyBorn in 1606 and died in 1656 in Paris, was best known for his Classical and Baroque painting. Although he himself never visited Italy, he was influenced by Italian artists in Paris in the way he used colour and posed figures, namely through Primaticcio at Fontainebleau and Caravaggism. La Hyre was innovative in his painteresque style to tell stories about subjects which were rarely depicted in art. La Hyre will change his style to one which has lighter colours and more serene subjects.
