DescriptionA pentagon-shaped wooden pattern badge, the pentagon pointing downwards. It depicts over waves, the face of the moon. The border of the pentagon is slightly elevated mimicking a stranded rope whose upper, horizontal side, which probably carried the vessel's name in a rectangular box, is missing. Daughter of Uranus and Gaia, Phoebe was one of the Titans of Greek mythology, later passing on her power to her grandson, Apollon. As moon goddess Artemis' grandmother, Phoebe's figure is traditionally associated with the moon as well.

Launched in Marched 1939, H.M.S Phoebe belonged to the first group of the Dido-class cruisers of the Royal Navy. It was transferred to the 7th Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean in April 1941. As one of the vessels pertaining to Force Z, it took part in Operation Pedestal in August 1942.
