BiographyLuca Cambiaso (1527–1585), also known as Luca Cambiasi or Luca Cangiagio, was the foremost painter and draftsman in 16th-century Genoa. Regarded as the founder of the Genoese school, he helped shape its tradition of historical fresco painting through extensive work in the city’s churches and palaces. Renowned for his prolific output, he created evocative night scenes and developed a distinctive drawing style that often reduced figures to geometric, even cubic, forms. He was popularly called Lucchetto da Genova.
