BiographyBorn in Pisa in 1563 and died in 1627, Valerio Marucelli was a Baroque painter famous for his works during the Medici court in which he produced different sized copies of famous artworks by Michelangelo Buonarroti and Raphael. Marucelli is described as a scarcely known portrait artist from the school of Naldini and Santi di Tito. He is most appreciated for his work depicting Michelangelo shaking hands with a Doge.
